Introduction
Do you believe you don’t need anything but Excel to analyse data?
If so, you have not seen STATISTICA!
Many people use Excel to analyse data and put up with the tedious slowness and limited techniques either because they don’t know any better, or they think alternatives are too hard. This seminar will show that with very little training, or even with self-teaching, it is easy to summarise and explore data many times faster than with Excel.
Overview
This seminar demonstrates the analysis of data while you watch. Because all the data is in named columns, a few clicks on menus is all it takes to calculate average values of a variable for each of hundreds or thousands of sub-categories. No need to scroll down the screen to find the end of your data, or to re-organise your data to fit the input requirements for your analysis. A relevant graph is always at hand with another click.
Do you want to explore your data using advanced techniques such as stepwise multiple regression? Not something you do every day, but ready when you want to use it. Mostly you will enjoy the easy to use and customisable graphs.
Come and let us show you!

With STATISTICA you can do many more kinds of analysis, in a small fraction of the time taken to do the simplest things in Excel. If you spend a lot of time on data analysis you will quickly recover the time spent to learn a new program, and the charge-out value of this time will repay the cost of STATISTICA and the optional training in a few months.
Much of this efficiency comes about because the data is laid out as a database table – you only refer to named variables (columns) when you specify an analysis. Other efficiency gains arise because STATISTICA is structured for data analysis, not for development of complex computational structures.
Because graphs are essential for understanding and presenting data, STATISTICA contains a large set of easily-customisable graphs, covering all the commonly-used ways to present data, and a lot of ways you won’t have thought of. The graphs are linked to the underlying data, so if you see an outlying point you just need to click on it to find out which one it is.
The menus have been structured with your analysis procedure in mind. If you want the equation that best describes the relation between two or more variables, you can get it. But the output dialog also makes it easy to create the relevant graphs to be sure you are not being misled by a few outlying points.
We strongly believe that data interpretation needs to be done by people who understand why and how the data was collected. With STATISTICA it now becomes possible for the average numerate professional person to explore their data thoroughly – come and let us show you how!

Dr Ray Hoare has degrees in mathematics, physics and chemistry and worked for many years in industrial and environmental science. For more than 20 years he has been helping people to analyse engineering, science and business data, as well as presenting Seminars and training people in the use of statistical software.
About STATISTICA
STATISTICA is a statistics-based product for exploring and summarising data. You can create graphs and do graphical data exploration, as well as creating statistical summaries of large or small amounts of data. It offers a comprehensive set of essential statistical tests in a user-friendly package, and all the performance, power and ease of use of the modern StatSoft technology.
Example applications: • Quickly summarising data and producing reports • Finding relationships within your data • Finding the important exceptions • Add statistical functionality to your existing VBA applications • Graphical representation of business data • Preparation of complex scientific graphs • Working with unlimited sized databases
By being written with modern programming techniques, STATISTICA has managed to incorporate ease of use with powerful and flexible data graphing and statistical analysis.
