The course covers basic topics such as performing simple calculations, plotting graphs and visually exploring your data, to advanced topics including calculus and optimisation.
The course is designed for beginner through to intermediate Maple users.
We encourage you to bring along your own problems and data, so the instructor can work with you to help solve them using Maple during the course.
Maple reduces error, shortens design time, and helps you manage all of the data, models, results, and knowledge in your project, which allows you to eliminate notebooks, calculators, and other error-producing tools.

Perform your computations and document your project in a single environment. Seamlessly combining sophisticated calculations and models, with graphics and data plots, and explanatory material in a single environments saves you documentation time and enhances presentations and collaboration.
Accelerate all phases of your project using mathematics. From initial concept exploration and research, to high fidelity simulation models, to final documentation and presentation, Maple stays with you throughout your project.
Visit www.hrs.co.nz/maple for a more detailed description.
You need some mathematics skills, at minimum Bursary Maths with Calculus, and basic Excel. The instructor will compare and contrast Maple and Excel where appropriate.

Kathrin Boardman (B.Sc, M.Com (Hons) in Mathematics and Economics) has had extensive practical experience in mathematical modelling and analysis for both large corporates and small to medium businesses. She also is a part-time senior lecturer at the University of Auckland.
She has applied mathematical modelling techniques to decision making in many different areas such as finance, mining, shipping, gaming, education, and health.
As well as this application focus, Kathrin has been involved in training others in these techniques for some time.

About Maple
Maple is the essential technical computing software for today’s engineers, mathematicians, and scientists. Whether you need to do quick calculations, develop design sheets, teach fundamental concepts, or produce sophisticated high-fidelity simulation models, Maple’s world-leading computation engine offers the breadth and depth to handle every type of mathematics.
Maple combines the world’s most powerful mathematical computation engine with an intuitive, "clickable" user interface. Its smart document environment automatically captures all of your technical knowledge in an electronic form that seamlessly integrates calculations, explanatory text and math, graphics, images, sound, and diagrams.
