2005 December – Issue 4

We hope you are able to have a good break at the end of the year, or that you have a great reason to work through. We have had a very good year and will be taking a break from 23 December till 9 January. If you need support during this period, please send email to support@hrs.co.nz, or in an emergency phone Ray Hoare on 021 170 0713.

You will find below some news items on the following: end of year purchases, including Mathcad upgrades and a special Mathcad offer; staff changes; a new power electronics simulation program; an invitation to potential seminar presenters; MATLAB consultants; and conference sponsorship. If you are using an HTML email reader you can click on the hyperlinks, otherwise just scroll down to read them.

Best wishes from all at HRS for 2006.

Ray Hoare, M.D.

Have you spent your budget yet?

We will be accepting orders for processing this year until the end of business on 22 December. If it is a straightforward purchase we may even be able to supply you with an invoice immediately. Why not buy Grapher? It helps you to make far better graphs for any application area than you can do in Excel, and costs only $550 + gst for single copies.

Mathcad 8 and earlier versions cannot be upgraded after 21 December.

If you have an old copy of Mathcad it could be worth $1000 off an upgrade purchase if we get your order before next Wednesday. Contact Darrel now!

Special Mathcad bundle saves money as well as your engineering design time!

The Mathcad RDM bundle for the Research, Design, and Manufacturing industries gives you Mathcad plus 3 extension packs for the price of a single Mathcad. But the offer expires next Wednesday!

The extension packs give you extra functionality in Data Analysis, Solving and Optimisation, and Signal Processing. Contact Darrel to ask questions or to order.

Staff Changes

We are delighted that we have been able to re-hire Glen Irving, who spent 4 years with us building sales of STATISTICA and our other business products. He will be taking over these products again and has also picked up responsibility for Mathematica and Maple as well as compilers.

Darrel has now taken over MATLAB, as well as a few other engineering and scientific products. We expect that the combination of skills an experience we now have will give our customers even better service when dealing with HRS.

New Product – PLECS

This product is of interest to anyone who has to design electrical power devices – motors, battery chargers, generators, inverters. It works within a MATLAB-Simulink environment, allowing rapid and easy simulation of any power electronic circuit and its controls. See www.hrs.co.nz/plecs.

HRS helps people share their technical expertise

In 2005 HRS helped four technical professionals share their expertise in seminars they presented for our client base and the wider community. We are keen to do more of these, since they help our clients to understand our products and what they are used for, and they also benefit the presenter in both direct and indirect ways. If you think you could work with HRS in your area of specialisation, particularly if it involves the use of MATLAB, please email Ray with your thoughts.

MATLAB consultants

We are building a list of consultants who are available for hire with expertise in MATLAB in a variety of technical areas. If you need a consultant, or if you wish to offer your services, please email Ray.

Conference sponsorship

In 2005 HRS sponsored 20 conferences and meetings, in areas as diverse as science, medicine, economics, mathematics, statistics and local government. If your society wants to benefit itself as well as HRS, contact Leon.
