Pre-order SurveyPro 5 today or before the release date of 30 April and benefit from up to 30% discount off the normal retail price.

New Features in SurveyPro 5

  • XML Questionnaire Import/Export: powerful new XML tools enable wider editing of questionnaires, distribution of questionnaire content, easy translation, and streamlined questionnaire import.
  • Printable Summary Answers Page: provide a web page that shows the respondent's answers to their survey for review.  This gives them a chance to double-check before submitting.  Or, it allows respondents to easily print their answers to paper or PDF, or save them as an HTML file.
  • Capture Response Time: every web questionnaire will now log the amount of time it takes the respondent to complete the entire survey.  If you're allowing students/trainees one hour to complete a test, for example, this would capture the required information.

Major update to the Curve Fitting Toolbox 2.0

Curve Fitting Toolbox ScreenshotCurve Fitting Toolbox provides graphical user interfaces (GUIs) and command-line functions for fitting curves and surfaces to data. The toolbox lets you perform exploratory data analysis, preprocess and post-process data, compare candidate models, and remove outliers. You can conduct regression analysis using the library of linear and nonlinear models provided or specify your own custom equations. The toolbox also supports nonparametric modeling techniques, such as interpolation and smoothing.

New features introduced in this version:

Interactive Surface Fitting

You can interactively fit surfaces to data and view plots with the new flexible and intuitive Surface Fitting Tool GUI.

  • Create, plot, and compare multiple surface fits
  • Use linear or nonlinear regression, interpolation, local smoothing regression, or custom equations
  • View goodness-of-fit statistics, display confidence intervals and residuals, remove outliers and assess fits with validation data
  • Automatically generate M-code for fitting and plotting surfaces, or export fits to workspace for further analysis

For more information, see Interactive Surface Fitting.

Programmatic Surface Fitting

  • New surface fit objects store the results from a fitting operation, making it easy to plot and analyze fits at the command line.

For more information, see Surface Fitting Objects and Methods.

Simulink Design Optimisation for enhanced modelling and control design

Simulink Design OptimisationCapabilities Include the Use of Optimisation to Refine Model and Control System Parameters for Increased Model Accuracy and Improved Control System Performance.

Together, Simulink Design Optimisation, Simulink, Simscape, and Simulink Control Design provide a powerful modelling and control design environment that enables engineers to create plant models, calibrate these models with test data, and use them to design, simulate, and optimise control systems.

With Simulink Design Optimisation, modelling engineers can calibrate models with test data directly, bypassing time-consuming trial and error methods. Simulink Design Optimisation lets control engineers use optimisation algorithms for automatic controller parameter adjustment to meet system performance requirements.

Introducing Vehicle Network Toolbox 1.0

Simulink model illustrating a host model for host-target CAN communication.Communicate with in-vehicle networks using CAN protocol.

Vehicle Network Toolbox lets you send and receive CAN packets directly from MATLAB or Simulink. It enables encoding, decoding, and filtering of CAN messages and lets you work with industry-standard CAN database files.

With Vehicle Network Toolbox, you can create test and analysis applications in MATLAB that use live data from CAN networks. You can also use live CAN data to validate Simulink models. Vehicle Network Toolbox lets you communicate with the CAN bus directly from MATLAB or Simulink so that you can correlate and synchronise CAN messages with other data and monitor CAN bus traffic. The toolbox provides full support for the following Vector CAN interface hardware: CANcardX, CANcardXL, CANcaseXL, CANboardXL, CANboardXL PCIe, and CANboardXL pxi.

Introducing Simbiology 3.0

Simbiology 3 ScreenshotLatest version provides more accessible, flexible functionality for population pharmacokinetic modelling

The MathWorks recently announced the availability of SimBiology 3, a tool for modelling, simulating and analysing biological systems in one integrated, graphical environment. SimBiology 3 provides a more intuitive and flexible environment for population pharmacokinetic (PK) modelling and analysis.

SimBiology 3 includes a new PK model wizard that offers the ease-of-use of a built-in library without the limitation of pre-defined models.  The model wizard automatically generates PK models by specifying only compartment number, route of administration and method of elimination. Users can also import clinical or experimental data, preprocess, visualise and calculate statistics on the data.  Population fits can then be performed using methods such as non-linear mixed effects modelling.

@RISK Case Study - Demand-Side Management and
http://hrs.co.nz/dynimages/risk-logo.gifBC Hydro's Energy Planning Process

Presented by Basil Stumborg at the 2008 Palisade Risk & Decision Analysis Conference.

BC Hydro is the provincial electric utility for British Columbia. With two million customers and annual revenues of roughly $5 billion, it is Canada's second biggest utility.

With its current Long Term Energy Plan in front of its regulator, BC Hydro has embarked on a bold shift in its energy strategy– it intends over the next 20 years to meet almost 75% of its incremental load through energy conservation – one of the most aggressive targets in North America.

The uncertainty analysis around the energy conservation goals has played a key role in the energy planning processes. @RISK's Monte Carlo simulation is used to forecast highly uncertain demand and other variables.

University of Houston MBAs put the DecisionTools Suite to Work

Decision Tools Suite LogoPhil Rogers teaches Managerial Decision Making to MBA candidates at the University of Houston's C. T. Bauer College of Business where most of his students are managers with industry experience. These students need analytical tools that offer both a short learning curve and the ability to accurately model their real-life problems. Phil uses Palisade's DecisionTools Suite in the classroom because "the leverage you get by using these tools in Excel is phenomenal. My students can very quickly learn and apply the techniques they see in class to difficult decision-making problems faced by their firms." Students include managers from Sinopec and CNPC, the two largest petrochemical companies in China.

Forecast Pro Tips and Tricks: Flexible Data Hierarchies in Forecast Pro Unlimited V5

ForecastPro LogoForecast Pro Unlimited V5 allows you to easily define hierarchies through the use of attribute fields. Unlike other desktop forecasting applications, there are no limits on the number of levels or structure of the hierarchy (e.g., customer-based, product grouping-based, geography-based, etc.). Forecasts are generated for all levels of your hierarchy and can be reconciled using any combination of top-down, bottom-up and middle-out approaches. Once you've completed your forecasts, Forecast Pro Unlimited V5 will export your forecasts and defined hierarchy in a tabular format, allowing for easy forecast integration, analysis and reporting.
