Mathcad Single User (SU) Upgrade to Floating License

Mathcad LogoFloating licenses can allow one copy of a program to be used by any of the potential users in your organisation, as long as they are connected to the same server – a great saving.

Mathcad SU customers with licenses v2000 or greater can take advantage of a special price to upgrade to a floating license and get access to ongoing maintenance updates as long as they place a purchase with us before 30 July 2008. Prices are:

Upgrade from Version Number:

Price in $NZ

v14

$3530 + GST

Earlier versions

Price on Request

Why should you upgrade your SU license to a floating license?

  • A SU license is for one individual and is non-transferable so if the employee with the license leaves the department or company, the license goes with them.
  • A SU license does not include maintenance so you must pay for each upgrade to the new versions. You will not be able to download any patch or maintenance releases from end of July 2008.
  • A SU license does not enable centralised license management for small/large groups
  • A SU license includes only 30 days of installation support.
  • A SU license does not include a home-use license whereas you get TWO home-use licenses per floating key.
  • A SU license usually has to pay for extension packs/libraries but these are provided at no additional cost with a floating license.
  • A floating license can be used by many people in your organisation

These can be important features for organisations, so we encourage you to take advantage of this offer. If finances are tight and you want to take advantage of most of these benefits, ask us for the cost to upgrade to a node locked license - it has all the advantages above, except the last one.

MapleSim Pilot

MapleSim LogoMaplesoft recently announced the release of MapleSim, the pilot version of a revolutionary tool that is expected to set new standards in the modelling and simulation industry. MapleSim is a high-performance multi-domain modelling and simulation tool, which will dramatically reduce the time taken to bring products to market by using physical modelling techniques.

MapleSim offers a number of advantages over traditional systems: it has the ability to mix physical components and traditional blocks; the model diagrams map directly to the physical system; it offers natural multi-domain modelling; advanced units management; live design documentation; automatic generation of system equations; and model simplification using symbolic techniques.

'Until you see how easy it is to turn your own equations in to new modelling blocks you won’t believe it – it is wonderful for educators!'

MapleSim uses cutting edge physical modelling techniques that can save hours, even days on complex applications. Click here for more information about physical modelling.

Find out how MapleSim can help you in your physical modelling work. Join the MapleSim pilot program and get early access to MapleSim while providing your ideas and your experience to influence the next generation in modelling and simulation tools! To join the pilot program, click here.

CLC bio Sequence Viewer Workbench 5.0.1 (Formerly The Free Workbench)

Sequence Viewer LogoCLC Sequence Viewer (Still a free product) creates a software environment that enables users to make a large number of bioinformatics analyses, combined with smooth data management, and excellent graphical viewing and output options.

It has the same basic structure as the much more sophisticated purchased products from CLC, and can be used to facilitate the sharing of information generated by these products.

This illustrates the approach taken by CLC bio to all their products – they are not just stand-alone programs like the ones you download from the Web. CLC provides an environment for bioinformatics, where users can share tools and information freely, and can extend their organisation’s investigation capacity by incorporating their own programming developments into the same environment.

Forecasting 101: What are time series forecasting methods and when should I use them?

Time series methods are forecasting techniques that base the forecast solely on the demand history of the item you are forecasting. They work by capturing patterns in the historical data and extrapolating those patterns into the future. Time series methods are appropriate when you can assume a reasonable amount of continuity between the past and the future. They are best suited to shorter-term forecasting (say 18 months or less). This is due to their assumption that future patterns and trends will resemble current patterns and trends. This is a reasonable assumption in the short term but becomes more tenuous the further out you forecast. Click here to read the full article.

This article is by Business Forecast Systems, makers of Forecast Pro.
